Daycare provision is increasingly becoming a necessity for families across America. According to a 1997 study by the Consumer and Product Safety Commission, 13 million children were placed in daycare settings. During that same year it was reported that 31,000 children visited the emergency room due to injuries occurring in daycare and school settings. As more and more children attend daycare settings each day, there is an increasing concern for their safety.

Did you know?

Over 70 percent of children between 5 and 14 ride bicycles (27.7 million) yet it is estimated that only 15 to 25 percent wear helmets.

Children living in poverty have a higher rate of injury than children of more substantial means, (Durkin 1994).

Did you know that falls are the leading cause of injury death among those ages 65 and older? Falls cause 61 percent of traumatic brain injuries in this age group. The good news is many falls can be prevented by maintaining physical strength and by making your home safer!
