C. S. Mott Children's Hospital, designated a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons, provides the necessary resources to care for the most seriously injured pediatric patients, from pre-hospital care through rehabilitation. Over 9000 children are treated each year in our emergency department and 500 have severe injuries requiring hospitalization.
And to continue to improve care, our faculty conduct medical research to advance the understanding of pediatric trauma and to develop new, innovative treatments. We also provide a vast array of outreach programs to teach children and their families about safety.
A new C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and Women’s Hospital is under construction on the U-M Health System campus. The 1.1 million-square-foot children’s and women’s facility will house 13 pediatric operating rooms, four pediatric surgical procedure rooms, four Caesarean section suites, and 348 private inpatient beds, including 50 single room maternity care beds upon completion. The building is scheduled to open in fall 2012.
