Session Description:
Injuries are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality for children and youth in the U.S. Firearms are now the leading cause of death for U.S. children and youth 1-24 years old. In this session we will describe disparities in child and youth injuries, focused on firearms, drowning, home injuries, and sleep related deaths in the U.S. We will discuss structural and systemic inequities as well as cultural factors, which contribute to these injury disparities. Approaches to address these inequities and programs and interventions focused on injury prevention will be presented.

Learning Objectives:
1. Describe injury related disparities for school age children, adolescents, and young adults, including firearms and drowning.
2. Review disparities for injuries primarily affecting infants and younger children, including those related to home injuries and infant sleep.
3. Analyze structural and cultural factors, which contribute to these disparities
4. Discuss interventions to address disparities related to firearm, drowning, home-related, and infant sleep injuries and deaths.
