CincyAfterSchool sites will unite to participate in the 5th Annual National Lights On Afterschool! rally on October 14, 2004.

CincyAfterSchool received $5.1 million to develop community learning centers at nine Cincinnati Public School sites from the Ohio Department of Education’s administration of the 21st Century Community Learning Center grant program. The program is a collaboration of a growing coalition of community agencies among them Cincinnati IFCK, who has partnered with the Urban League to implement afterschoool programs in the three Avondale elementary schools.

CincyAfterSchool will be one of more than 5,000 sites across the nation that will help send the message that afterschool is key to children’s success, and that we must keep afterschool’s lights on and doors open. Local parents, media, employers, artists, neighbors, school officials and others have been invited to help us rally support for safe, stimulating afterschool programs.

The rally will serve as the kickoff event for the Avondale after school programs which will start next week. The program will include a brief ceremony then kids will participate in a variety of educational activities and enjoy a healthy snack. Local parents, media, employers, artists, neighbors, school officials and others have been invited to help us rally support for safe, stimulating afterschool programs.

Everyone who cares about kids is encouraged to come out to support this event.
