Program/Event Details:
We will work with a local agency, Nurse Family Partnership, to provide families experiencing financial hardship with a 2 hour safety workshop (available in English and Spanish) as well as safety equipment for free. Nurse Family Partnership is an national, evidence-based home nursing program in which families experiencing hardship are paired with a public health nurse from pregnancy through their child's second birthday to foster better health outcomes in underserved communities. This will strengthen our relationship with Nurse Family Partnership. Topics covered include: child passenger safety, safe sleep, falls prevention (window falls, stair falls, furniture tip overs, falls from furniture, slips/trips), water safety/bath safety, burns/scalds prevention, poison prevention, choking prevention and intervention, and general home safety. Families are provided with free: car seat, pack n play (if age appropriate), swaddles (if age appropriate), home safety kits, and window locks.
We will serve 25 families. We will provide 25 car seats, 20 pack n plays, 40 swaddles, 25 home safety kits, 50 window locks at the event. We use pre and post tests to assess knowledge change.
