Program/Event Details:
We will work with a local agency, Sacred Heart Community Service , to provide families experiencing financial hardship with a 2 hour safety workshop (available in English and Spanish) as well as safety equipment for free. Sacred Heart Community Services servers all of Santa Clara County to provide food, housing, education and community resources. In a year Sacred Heart Community services provide support services to roughly 60,000 people. We work specifically with the POPS Program ( Parents of Preschoolers). Topics covered include: child passenger safety, safe sleep, falls prevention (window falls, stair falls, furniture tip overs, falls from furniture, slips/trips), water safety/bath safety, burns/scalds prevention, poison prevention, choking prevention and intervention, and general home safety, bike safety. Families are provided with free: car seat, pack n play (if age appropriate), swaddles (if age appropriate), home safety kits, window locks, reflective slap bracelets.
We will serve 20 families. We will provide 30 car seats, 5 pack n plays, 10 swaddles, 20 home safety kits, 40 window locks, 30 reflective slap bracelets at the event. We use pre and post tests to assess knowledge change.
