Parents of children birth to age 3 are invited to attend this workshop and safety expo with free safety products. This new event brought together over 30 staff members from the hospital to put on the 2 1/2-hour event held at the hospital. Topics covered included the dangers of look-a-likes and safe medication storage, we covered window fall prevention, TV and furniture tip overs, peds first aid guides were provided, water safety, child passenger safety (for children that arrived in infant carriers who were able to make adjustments to their harnesses if needed), hands only CPR and choaking prevention and treatment. Our burn center utilized the kitchen space we had in our event space to address hot liquid burns, as well as distribute the bath safety temperature ducks. Safe sleep education was provided, along with gun locks and safe storage of firearms education=. In addition, we offered free flu shots and healthy snacks. A website was created with all the details. www.hennepinhealthcare.org/babysafety 55 parents attended.
