Program/Event Details:
We offered 40 low-income new and expecting moms in the greater Hartford area their own personal “Baby Safety Shower.” Participants received a car seat, Pack n' Play and sleep blankets for safe sleep, a baby gate, water temperature duckie, and home safety items such as wall-socket covers, cabinet locks, window guards, toilet lock, smoke and CO alarm, doorknob covers, and other baby-proofing items. Each parent received instruction on proper car seat installation and use, as well as education about home safety, including hidden home dangers and how to safeguard children. Topics included water safety and drowning prevention, safe sleep practices, fall prevention, and the importance of keeping household cleaners, medicines, and laundry detergent safely locked away.
