Community Programs and Events

Program/Event Details:
To recognize National Injury Prevention Day we will participate in "Shining a Green Light" in Boston and the surrounding region and will distribute home safety bags for socio-economically disadvantaged children less than 5 years old in the ED, hospitalized, and in the hospital based primary care clinic and the hospital affiliated neighborhood health center.

Methods: This is a home safety program for families with children less than 5 years old with state-based insurance in the ED, inpatient trauma service, or the hospital primary care clinics. In the ED, patients will be identified by the child’s treating nurse from the electronic ED tracking board. Hospitalized children will be identified by the inpatient trauma service. Primary care children will be identified by the child life specialist. Home safety bags will be distributed both at the hospital based, Children’s Hospital Primary Care Clinic and the hospital affiliated federally qualified neighborhood health center, Martha Eliot Health Center. Eligible families will receive a reusable home safety bag containing electrical outlet covers, cabinet latches, bathtub water thermometer, and doorknob covers. Families will also receive age appropriate safety educational materials, including the AAP TIPP sheets.
