Shining a Green Light

Program/Event Details:
Trauma Services: Injury Prevention Team members held an event at Gulfcoast Hospital (approximately 4,000 employees) to inform hospital staff, volunteers, patients, and visitors about the importance of remaining injury-free and how health systems and local businesses play a pivotal role in identifying unintentional injuries and relaying that information to the community through educational programs. Flyers and educational information were distributed, educating the community on the devastating effects of unintentional injuries and the burden that they can cause to communities nationwide. The goal was to unify our voices and efforts to raise awareness about unintentional injuries and violence. Erika Taylor, Gulfcoast Hospital's Trauma Services Medical Social Worker, also attended the event. Erika offered additional injury prevention information, including injury prevention community resources and robust support groups provided by Trauma Services. This allowed her to identify other areas of concern related to injuries and prevention needs within the community.

The event was held on Monday, November 13th, 2023, outside the cafeteria entrance. In addition, monitors throughout Gulfcoast Hospital displayed Lee Health's National Injury Prevention Day "Shine a Green Light" to increase engagement.
