National Injury Prevention Day 2023

NCPW hosted a Safety Carnival in the lobby of our Novak Center, which is home to one of our pediatric primary care offices, along with 12 pediatric specialty clinics, to educate families on injury prevention topics. The carnival took place on Monday November 13th from 9 am to noon. There were 5 tables that include education on an injury prevention topic along with a carnival game kids can play. The topics included; water safety, safe storage (medication and firearms), motor vehicle safety, safe sleep, and fire safety. We had out department as well as volunteers from our ED, EMS, and Norton Children’s Safe Sleep committee to facilitate the games and provide corresponding education. We had a total of 15 volunteers. After receiving education at each table the family received a ticket and was entered into a drawing to win a basket of safety items. These items included a medication lock box, gun lock, bath thermometer, smoke detector, home safety kit, sleep sack, and pack n play. There were little prizes for the kids to win after playing each game along with carnival themed snacks. Our marketing team created a flyer which was distributed to all offices in the Novak Center. We saw 47 families at the carnival which was around 130 people who received injury prevention education on these topics!
