Ronald M. Stewart, M.D.

Associate Professor, Injury Free Coalition for Kids of

The principal investigator of the Injury Free Coalition for Kids in San Antonio, Ronald Stewart, M.D., is the Director of Trauma at University Hospital, an Associate Professor of Surgery and Anesthesiology and the Director of Trauma and Emergency Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA). He received the Faculty Member of the Year Award from The University Health System in 1999. That same year he was awarded the Bronze Quill for his writings on the injury prevention program Shattered Dreams/D.E.A.D. (Drinking and Driving End All Dreams). Dr. Stewart has been the Chairperson of the Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council for Trauma since 1996. In May 2000, Governor George W. Bush appointed him to the Texas Emergency Medical Services and Trauma Advisory Council. He is the chair of the South Texas Chapter of the ACS Committee on Trauma. Dr. Stewart’s research interests lie in the areas of injury epidemiology, clinical trauma care, and telecommunications. His current projects include the influence of county income level and injury mortality rates, the influence of educational level and county injury mortality rates in the United States, and the role of injury prevention in an evolving trauma system.
