Shanika Kaltenbrun is a dedicated public health professional with a passion for community health and education. A graduate of Carroll University, she earned her bachelor's degree in public health, in addition to her accumulated six years of experience in both adult and pediatric emergency medicine, trauma, and critical care. Serving patients of various socioeconomic backgrounds and seeing some of the most critically significant medical cases impacting public health such as gun violence, drownings, and motor vehicle accidents. During her academic career, Shanika had the privilege of working as an intern at Children's Hospital, where she was actively involved incar seat clinics, community car seat events, and Camp Ujima, initiatives that promote child safety and health education. As a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician, she has been committed to enhancing the safety of young passengers in the community. She is a member of the injury free special needs subcommittee, the injury free CPST subcommittee, and Safe Kids Southeast Wisconsin. She also interned with the Cudahy Health Department coordinating an aging populations community fitness initiative which was launched in the summer of 2025 with emphasis on exercise in elderly communities.

In 2025, she demonstrated her passion for advocacy by participating in Wisconsin Healthcare Association’s Advocacy Day in Madison, where she joined other healthcare professionals in engaging with legislators to promote policy changes that improve public health outcomes across the state. She prioritizes trauma informed care and has completed TIC training multiple times throughout her career, and had gone through poverty simulation training to better understand the communities she interacts with.

Shanika is deeply committed to advancing health equity and believes that building strong, collaborative community relationships is essential to fostering healthier, more resilient populations. Her work emphasizes the importance of creating opportunities for health improvement at the community level, ensuring that all individuals have access to the resources and support needed to thrive.
