Co-Principal Investigator, Injury Free Coalition for Kids of Atlanta
Barbara J. Pettitt is Co-Principal Investigator for Injury Free Atlanta. She is the Chief of Pediatric Surgery for the Grady Health System, Chief of Surgery at Hughes Spalding Children’s Hospital and an assistant professor at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Pettitt obtained her bachelor’s degree from Central College in Pella, Iowa, her medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago and she did her surgical and pediatric surgical training at the Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, respectively. She is Board-certified in Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care, and presently also serves as the Interim Medical Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Hughes Spalding. Dr. Pettitt has a special interest in surgical education. In addition to her regular duties teaching Emory surgical residents in the operating room and on the wards, she was recently awarded a Surgical Education Research Fellowship by the Association for Surgical Education and Ortho-Biotech.
