We are currently the only site in Georgia for the national program Injury Free Coalition for KidsĀ®. As a member site of this national program, we are required to:

  • Develop a local injury surveillance system,
  • Coordinate a local injury prevention coalition,
  • Educate communities about injury prevention,
  • Develop safe environments and safe activities for children, and
  • Evaluate the efficacy of the interventions with ongoing surveillance.
  • Activities conducted as a member site of this national program include injury surveillance, injury prevention activities (educational programs and safety product distribution) designed to lower risks of injury to infants, children, and adolescents, and the evaluation of the effectiveness of these injury prevention activities. Participants in our programs are primarily parents/guardians/caregivers of infants, children, and adolescents.

Occupant Safety Program This program provides car safety seats and training to new and expectant mothers in the Grady Health System. In addition, the program and staff regularly participate in many collaborative events, including community car safety seat checks. The department currently has six nationally certified car safety seat technicians.
