The Injury Free site at Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH) is grounded within the Division of Emergency Medicine and the Trauma Program. Injury Free NCH will also establish broad collaborations with existing translational and public-facing programming within the NCH ecosystem, including institution-sponsored outreach initiatives, the NCH Community Education Department, the Central Ohio Poison Center, and the Centers for Injury Research and Policy (CIRP) and Pediatric Trauma Research at The Abigail Wexner Research Institute at NCH. These partnerships will enhance the scope and impact of NCH Injury Free and bridge community and institutional stakeholders who share a commitment to reducing childhood injury.
Injury Free NCH overarching goal is to reduce morbidity and mortality from childhood injury in the central Ohio metropolitan area. To accomplish this goal, we will focus our programmatic activities on the following objectives: • Utilize hospital and public data sources to identify community needs to inform injury prevention programming. • Design, implement, and refine injury prevention programming to address the most pressing child injury risks in Franklin County and central Ohio. • Train and mentor the next generation of trauma and injury prevention clinicians, researchers, and advocates. • Advance data-driven efforts to characterize child injury-related harms at a national level.
