Children are taught how to walk safely in their neighborhoods each year through an annual pedestrian safety program, Walk This Way. Through classroom discussion and practical demonstration, children are taught to use crosswalks, look both ways before crossing the street, and to wear bright clothing so that they can be seen by drivers.

Several bicycle safety events are conducted each year, such as Bicycle Rodeos. Bicycle rodeos are fun, interactive obstacles courses set up to engage children in bicycle safety. These events begin with a discussion on how to select an appropriate bike and helmet, helmet fitting, and tire check. Helmets are fitted and provided to children who are in need of bicycle helmets. Through affiliations with CYCLE and the Texas Medical Association’s Hard Hats for Little Heads program, CCIP distributes approximately 3,000 helmets each year and educates thousands more.
