Non accidental trauma- From 1992-2002, there were 73,342 victims of child maltreatment in Utah. More than 17,000 child abuse cases were investigated by the Division of Child and Family Services during the 1999 fiscal year; 8,085 of these cases were substantiated. There were 598 more cases of child maltreatment reported in the year 2000 than the year before. We will collaborate with The Utah Shaken Baby Syndrome Prevention Program, a hospital-based prevention program, to provide information on shake baby prevention to parents of all newborn children.
