Pediatric Traumatic Stress Referral Program

Site PI Dr. Kirsten Bechtel serves as director for the Pediatric Traumatic Stress Referral Program in the Children's ED of Yale New Haven Children's Hospital. This program helps to coordinate referrals to the Center for Traumatic Stress and Recovery at the Yale Child Study Center for children who suffer from traumatic events such as physical and sexual assaults, experiencing or witnessing domestic violence, or traumatic injuries. Such children are at risk for post-traumatic stress symptoms, and referring them for trauma-focused treatment can reduce the likelihood of full-blown Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
